Bageshwar is a town and a municipal board in Bageshwar district in the state of Uttarakhand, India. Bagnath Temple
This favorable place is said to be visited by lord Shiva in the appearance of tiger (bagh), when Sage Markandey used to live here. So it got its name Baghnath temple and the city got its name as Bageshwar. In 1602 AD, the rulers of Chand dynasty had built this temple in Bageshwar. It seeks special attention during the month of shravana and witness the huge inflow of visitors here.
Gauri Udiyar : It is about 8 km from Bageshwar town. These huge caves, measured about 95 sq meters, have oldest idols of Lord Shiva.
Vijaypur : This place is to be found 30km away from Bageshwar on Chukori motor road on the breath taking high altitude of Uttarakhand. It offers, its visitors, a panoramic view of snow covered Himalaya.
Baijnath : Being an old temple of lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, it is 26km away from Bageshwar and has a significant place both in the History and Religion. It is to be found in Katyuri Valley on the banks of River Gomti, once the capital of Katyuri Dynasty.
