Kaladhungi is located just on the foothill, a good climate but summers are hot, located 26 km west of Haldwani on the Haldwani – Ramnagar road. Nainital is at distance of only 34 km to the north and Bazpur at about 19 km to south. Kathgodam is 30 km. Kaladhungi has a road connecting to Delhi via Bazpur, Tanda and Moradabad.

The name of the town Kaladhungi orginates from a place where black dunga (stone) is found. Black refers to the iron content in the stone found in Kaladhungi. The town was a center of a thriving iron foundry industry based on local ore and forest charcoal. The foundry can still be seen here.

Kaladhungi, a small Bhabbhar village in the foothills of the Himalayas at an elevation of 300 mts, is flanked by the Boar river on one side and the various tributaries of Nihal on the other. Before the road from Nainital to Kathgodam was built, Kaladhungi served as a staging point for travelers who had to walk the arduous climb to Nainital. Dandies and ponies were used by the old and children. Corbett walked up this route several times to attend meetings at Nainital.

He shot the last cattle lifter in Kaladhungi itself in 1946 upon the insistence of the villagers. He had said that he would rather pay compensation than go for a cattle lifter.The highlights of the trail are the canal and the ghats, pan chakki, Arundale, farm yard, foundry, forest rest house and the jungle studio. The significance of Kaladhungi is clear from the fact that Jim Corbett choose this place as his residence. Today this unique home, is a comprehensive museum housing souvenirs, relics, momentos related to Jim Corbett and his famous exploits. Season : Round the year
